Long before I read John McPhee's The Control of Nature, I had a geography professor who taught me to look at local maps before purchasing a home so that I could avoid purchasing one on a flood plain.

Either people don't have the sense with which their born or they didn't study geography in college, high school or on their own.

And developers will build anywhere.

Karen Amy mentioned that she always thought our living on a fault qualified as arrogance of control. In our case - being so close to the fault, Michele being a geologist and glass collector - that seems to be true. Ain't projection grand?
